Deposit Return Scheme: the true cost of your bottled water

Are you hoarding plastic bottles to cash in at the vending machine later?

Or maybe you’ve just accepted that you’re paying more for water and tossing it in the recycling bin?

Well, guess what? A recent Irish Independent article spilled the tea on the Deposit Return Scheme. Did you know that millions of euros were unclaimed deposits because people either stash or bin drink containers.

In the first 40 days, only 7 million containers made it back. As of March 26th, 193 million containers were still waiting to be returned or had already been thrown out.

Just think about how many of those millions are from plastic water bottles!

Microplastics

Recent studies show that micro and nano plastics found in bottled water create a huge threat to human health even to unborn babies.

Consumed microplastics can enter the blood stream being the right size to penetrate even your blood cells!

Check out this article from the Irish Examiner about microplastics in water.

Here we are again… the industry is passing the buck to us consumers for the pollution their products cause.

We know there are better ways to package water that don't mess up the environment or affect us, but the industry doesn’t seem to be keen on changing because it means spending money to switch up production.

THMs

To add fuel to the fire, there's news that cancer-causing chemicals called trihalomethanes (THMs) are at their highest levels ever in Irish tap water. THMs are made when chlorine mixes with natural matter.

THMs in Irish tap water has everyone worried. Not only does Irish tap water taste and smell bad but there is huge health concerns too!

Luckily, there is a solution to these major financial and health problems that we are faced with – a water filter system.

What is a water filter system?

A Reverse Osmosis (RO) system is a water purification method. Originally designed to desalinate seawater, it's now widely used for making drinking water safe.

RO works by pushing untreated water through a special filter with tiny pores, removing up to 99% of contaminants like dissolved solids, chemicals, bacteria, and viruses.

It also employs antimicrobial filters to eliminate unpleasant odours, colours, and tastes, resulting in pure and clean drinking water.

How will you benefit from a water filter?

A water filter is your ticket to enjoying cleaner, safer and better tasting water. Coming with perks such as huge savings, health boosts, and pure water on tap whenever you need it.

1. Save money: Get rid of the need to pick up bottles of water on your weekly grocery shopping and no more costs when paying the deposit return scheme tax by switching to a water filter system for pure water from your kitchen tap.

2. Convenience: When you install a water filtration system in your home, there is the convenience of safe and pure water from your kitchen. Whether you choose a separate tap or a tri-flow tap, you and your family get to use as much water as you need for drinking, washing, boiling and cooking.

3. Cleaner and safer water: One of the biggest concerns for consumers is what’s actually in their water and with a water filter you can relax knowing that it will remove every single nasty thing that’s in it. A RO system will remove chlorine, heavy metals, bacteria, THMs, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, viruses, dirt, sediment, and other contaminants from your water. Ensuring that you're nourishing your body with filtered water that's safe for both drinking and cooking.

5. Environmental impact: Think about the amount of plastic bottles you’ll be saving because you won’t be buying them anymore! A water filter lowers the demand for bottled water, eliminating the need for more plastic bottle production and fossil fuel usage.
